Heather Saliny, RYT-500, RPYT, RCYT
I'm a kid at heart. Before I found yoga I was a theatre performer and singer, and I enjoy bringing a little exuberance to whatever it is I may be doing at the moment. Kids and animals seem to love my innate dramatic flair--I'm not sure there's a higher compliment to be had.
As a facilitator of yoga classes, my goal is to creatively balance alignment-based flow with meditation, pranayama, and restorative forms into a hatha yoga practice tailored to all levels. I consider myself an intuitive practitioner and curious student who seeks to guide fellow yoginis through their own experiences during class. In my group and private classes I strive to honor the classical Indian and South Asian heritage of the science of yoga by interweaving yoga sutras, asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), yama, niyama, mantra and chant. I'm committed to being vigilant against cultural appropriation and practicing anti-racism, with the understanding that I'm a work in progress and am continuously learning how to be a better human being. To me, teaching is a symbiotic symphony where students and educators learn from each other.
I've been teaching yoga in the Chicago area since 2013 and have been practicing since the mid-1990s. I am a 500-hour certified teacher registered with Yoga Alliance, licensed, and insured, and I have speciality training in prenatal, children's, and trauma-informed yoga.
